About the Project

The project www.agroinsurance.com is a specialized informational and analytical resource featuring a broad array of issues related to agricultural insurance and risk management in the agrarian sector. The web-site was founded in 2006 by a team of consultants that have worked in the insurance sector and have an analytical, research and training professional background. We have accumulated many documents while working in the segment of agricultural insurance for the past 5 years and would like to offer them to the visitors of our web-site.

Our team:

Roman Shynkarenko - project manager. Agricultural insurance and risk management consultant. Provided consultations to the insurance companies from Ukraine, Russia, Moldova and South Korea. Professional consulting experience:

- 2001-2005 - IFC (the World Bank Group) - deputy project manager on agricultural insurance, risk management and rural finance. Coordinated weather index insurance pilot project in Ukraine. Developed a training course on agricultural insurance and risk management (over 50 training session conducted);

- 2005-2006 - The Pragma Corporation (USA) - credit and finance leasing advisor;

- 2005-2006 - Commodity Risk Management Group (World Bank) - consultant, design of weather-based index insurance product for agricultural applications in Ukraine, analysis of the pilot project introduction;

- 2006 - The Services Group (USA) - consultant, analysis of the agricultural insurance system in Ukraine, proposals on development of effective agricultural insurance system in Ukraine;

- 2006 - Agriconsulting Europe (Italy) - consultant, development of agricultural insurance training program, analysis of statistical data on subsidized crop insurance program in Ukraine in 2005;

- 2007 - Civic Consulting (Germany) - consultant, survey of livestock insurance programs in CIS countries (Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Belorussia, Kazakhstan, etc.)

 

Victoria Yakubovich - consultant. Victoria is the author of an agricultural insurance training manual (Ukraine). She is a key specialist who has developed  proposals for an effective agricultural insurance system in Ukraine. Professional consulting experience:

- 2001-2005 - IFC (the World Bank Group) - consultant on agricultural insurance and risk management;

- 2005 - 2007 - Agriconsulting (Italy) - senior local consultant on agricultural insurance and risk management.

 

Elena Sosenko - consultant. The author of numerous publications on agricultural insurance. Currently works at Primacy Co (Australia). Professional experience:

- Insurance company Oranta (Ukraine);

- Insurance company Credo-Classic (Ukraine).

A major type of our activities will be to provide information to producers, insurers and other interested parties  about the design and application of weather-based index insurance in the agrarian sector for insuring agricultural production from the negative impact of catastrophic weather risks (freeze, drought, low temperature, etc.). Our specialists have consulted insurance companies on the development and introduction of weather index products for insuring grain crops, vegetables and fruits in the South of Ukraine. The development of weather index insurance products is done in cooperation with the Commodity Risk Management Group (World Bank), which is introducing such products in developing countries (Peru, India, Vietnam, China, countries in Africa and Latin America). At present, weather index products are being commercially developed and introduced by insurance companies in the USA, Canada, Spain, Australia, etc.

The main objective of the web-site is supportingto support the development of agricultural insurance in the CIS countries through the dissemination of imparia professional information to all interested parties.

The major types of our activities are to:

• provide information on innovative insurance products for agricultural applications; 
• organize training and informational events;
• consult agricultural producers deciding to insure their crops and livestock;
• perform an analysis of insurance products and government support programs;
• consult insurance companies about the development and introduction of insurance products and assist in the implementation of marketing and informational campaigns.

Insurance of agricultural risks is one of the most difficult types of insurance. We offer assistance in the development of agricultural insurance programs to all interested parties.
