US - Corn Falls From 14-Month High as U.S. Crop Unharmed by Weather

Corn futures fell from a 14-month high in Chicago and soybeans also declined after a government report showed dry weather in the U.S. Midwest failed to harm crop conditions in the country’s main growing region.The corn crop in the U.S., the world’s largest grower and exporter, was rated 70 percent good or excellent.

Food crisis looms after floods in Pakistan

The worst floods in Pakistan's history already have swept through the nation's most important breadbasket provinces, destroying cotton and corn crops, vegetables and orchards, and leaving many people in need of emergency food.Now experts warn that the food crisis could expand into a long-term problem if farmers can't get the seeds, draft animals and irrigation repairs they need for the fall planting of wheat, the nation's most important crop.

US - Crop Insurance To Remain Profitable Despite Cuts

Despite a cut in federal subsidy to the crop insurance program, crop insurers are expected to remain profitable, but they likely won’t see the 20 percent-plus returns they enjoyed in the past, a report said. Earlier this year, the government cut subsidies to the SRA by $6 billion over a 10-year period.

India - Grasshopper swarm destroys crops in Kathua district

Farmers in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district and adjacent areas have been hit by a swarm of grasshoppers. The new species of grasshopper is destroying maize, paddy, fodder and barley crops. Farmers are worried as they are likely to incur huge loss due to the crop damage.

Mongolia - Livestock Insurance Program Speed up in Mongolia

The Government of Mongolian with the help of the World Bank is implementing the Index-Based Livestock Insurance Program (IBLIP) since 2006. Insurance is provided through partnering with local private insurance companies such as “Mongol Insurance”, “Bodi Insurance”, “Prime Insurance” and “Practical Insurance”.

Pakistan - 71% rice crop destroyed in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa

The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations has released a damage assessment report of the agriculture sector in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The report reveals that up to 71 per cent of the rice crop has been lost to the floods. Out of the total of 76,564 acres of land used for rice cultivation, 54,665 acres were simply washed away.

Wheat Prices Fall as Egypt Looks Elsewhere

U.S. wheat prices fell 4% as Egypt, the world's largest importer of the grain, once again opted against buying U.S. wheat. Selling also was triggered after prices breached previously placed sell orders, traders said.
